About me

Welcome! I’m Nadir Ali, a researcher dedicated to advancing the field of silicon photonics. I have expertise in design, simulation, and characterization of large-scale, high-performance silicon photonic systems.

I hold a Ph.D. in photonics from the Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, where I delved into the intricacies of photonics. Prior to that, I earned my BSc and MSc in Physics from Jamia Millia Islamia.

During my doctoral studies, I made significant strides in the development of hybrid silicon photonic switching devices using phase change material. These devices has remarkable attributes such as low power consumption and ultra-compact footprints. Currently, my focus lies in creating large-scale systems leveraging the potential of the silicon photonics platform.

With extensive hands-on experience in designing and constructing complex photonic systems, I possess a great understanding of guided-wave photonics. Here are some of my key skills:

Computational Electromagnetic Skills: I am well-versed in photonic device modelling tools like ANSYS/Lumerical (FDTD, HEAT, CHARGE), COMSOL Multiphysics, and CST Microwave Studio.

EPDA Tools: I have high proficiency in utilizing Synopsys (Optocompiler, OptSim, ICV, StarRC), GDSfactory, and K-layout for efficient photonic chip design and layout creation. I have developed PICs using commercial CMOS foundries process design kit.

Programming and Other Tools: MATLAB and Python are my go-to languages for data analysis and modeling. I am also adept in Markdown, LaTeX, SketchUp, Origin, and Adobe Photoshop.

Measurement & Testing: With expertise in electrical/optical probing, optical alignment, and the operation of tools such as swept wavelength lasers, lightwave component analyzers, electro-optic modulators, and more, I possess comprehensive measurement and testing skills.

In addition to my research endeavors, I offer my services as a technical consultant to businesses. You can find more information about my expertise and contact me through my Kolabtree profile or reach out to me directly via email at nadir.ali19@gmail.com.
